WHERE do you find happiness??
The week before last was craaaazy!
I did a LOT of driving.
First I set off on an impromptu weekend away with my beloved partner. A last minute dash leaving Dublin at 8pm on Friday eve, saw us arrive in Ballina, Co.Mayo at 1am. We drove up a very dark, tree lined avenue and booked into a huge but extremely quiet hotel. Even the solemn porter that greeted us agreed with me and said ‘yes, our guests go to bed early…’
We found the lift next to a photo of a very handsome previous guest, whom I later found out is a good friend of the owners and ascended to the first floor. My glee at staying at the same hotel as the debonair Sean Connery himself was quickly silenced when the doors of the lift swished open. We were greeted by more eery silence and a decor that I can only but describe by mentioning the film The Shining.
Suddenly, just like in a scary movie, a series of lights clunked on,one after the other, lighting up a long corridor.
A scene from Alice in Wonderland stretched before us and as the final light clicked on a wooden cot was highlighted.
The next morning after my partner spent the night scaring the wits out of me with horror stories and laughing himself silly, we ventured out and down for breakfast. To cut a long story short…the Hotel grew on me. We met the very hardworking but friendly owner and chatted that night with a very charming barman. The sunlight outside exploded through large windows banishing all shadows and we explored the beautiful garden and river outside.
The decor was a ‘little’ dated but it had a quaint charm, lovely staff, very spacious, comfy and …. actually I would definitely go back although….. I did hear it is listed for the TV Show Room for Improvement with the Brennan brothers sometime soon!
Anyhow, we spent the next 2 days driving all over the county and exploring the Atlantic Way.
We visited Downpatrick Head and took the usual ‘funny’ shots.
But as we walked back from the cliffs edge we met a guy in a yellow jacket, holding a binoculars. He asked us to look out for a body in the water. It was a very sobering request and left me thoughtful.
In this photo I’m smiling but after this we found a a very poignant little memorial site in the village for the souls that left their homes from here and traveled down to Cork to board the Titanic, never to come home again.
After this we moved on to Achill Island. Another remote and possibly lonely spot but all I can say is, this place is simply incredible. Even though we had a flying visit I could feel myself unwinding among-st the the wild winds and crashing waves. I definitely want to go back here!
And it worked! This guy is the bomb!
Next it was off to Fermanagh on Tuesday for the #Irishbizparty Conference, thanks to a wonderful gentleman from the UK who sponsored me to go! Thank you Trevor AKA Bizzy Fizzy! I’m looking forward to our Blab together this Thursday – Have a look HERE!
Anyhow, the conference was a super networking and informative event founded by the incredible Samantha Kelly, who gave us – first hand – the news that she was moving on from it to concentrate on her brand Tweeting Goddess. Irishbizparty will still continue as it is, in the safe and very capable hands of a great team being lead by the very smart entrepreneur Michelle Duffy Rudden.
I teamed up with my pal and ‘room mate’ Denise Devlin a wonderfully positive and like minded lady (she does NLP also) whom just so happened to receive since the award of ‘Female Entrepeneur of the Year’ for her incredible business ‘Positive Parties’ – Training with a difference.
Watch this space as we are planning something amazing together very soon! You can hear all about it 1st on the 23rd of November on Charity Radio!!! 😉
This is me with Denise (middle) and the lovely Mary K Anderson who hosts another great show MindfulVibes on #MindfulMonday on Charity Radio.
We went to the inspiring ‘Get up and Go Conference’ organised by Eileen Forrestal.
It was a super inspiring day and I got to meet some amazing new people as well as seeing Breifne Earley again the super energetic Teena Gates!
Myself and Jillian left Sligo feeling renewed, inspired and as usual….laughing 😉
I came home and got straight into another week of work, clients, radio show, blabs, blogs personal life and family stuff, getting ready for my next Bootcamp, etc, etc….. and now…… I’m sick! I think the week took its toll on me.
So now, as I huddle by the fire, with an amaretto to hand (solely for medicinal purposes of course) I am pondering what its all about.
Whether we travel around the country or travel around the world, are we searching for happiness, and – is that how we find it?
My partner is busy cooking as I type this. He is preparing me a nice meal and my pup is snuggled by my feet. I feel like I have been run over by a bus, but…. guess what… I’m sore, I’m snuffly but… I’m happy.
I am grateful for the wonderful people and friends I know and have had the chance to meet, I am grateful for the opportunities, I am grateful for what I have right now …….. and like Breifne said when I asked him; ‘What did you get travelling the world that you didn’t have before?’
I have hope for the future and I am excited about what’s to come.
A little cold and flu isn’t going to stop me now 😉
Keep dreaming big, and enjoy the journey!
