Today I met with another lovely individual, who reiterated to me the same reason pretty much everybody has for not ‘doing’ something.
Whether you want to loose weight, get over your ex or change career, it always boils down to one thing – FEAR.
Sometimes people are a little shy to own up to this fear. They say to me… ‘Oh its not that, its…’ That kind of thing but it always goes back to that four letter word.
Believe me, we all feel it. In fact I do also, a LOT! But…there is a way to fight it and I have discovered how 😉
Follow these Tips and you will be a Fear Busting Warrior very soon!
1) Be Aware and use this! This works in two ways…
a) Pay attention to what is happening – Fear is a story we tell ourselves.
The Oxford Dictionary explains the word Fear HERE.
If your feeling afraid it is because you are IMAGINING the outcome. Challenge that outcome. Can you be sure this is what will happen? Is there another better solution? Your thoughts are simply that, just thoughts NOT reality! So notice what movie you are playing and change it to a better one. It works 🙂
b) Follow the Acronym for AWARE-
Accept the anxiety. Don’t fight it.
Watch it. Just pay attention and when you notice it start to breathe longer on the out-breath.
Act normally. Carry on as normal doing what you’re doing. This sends a powerful message to your unconscious mind that its over-dramatic response is not needed because nothing unusual is happening.
Repeat the above steps in your mind if needed.
Expect the best. One of the greatest feelings in life is when you realize that you can control fear much more than you thought possible.
All of this also helps you to feel less overwhelmed and detached. You will no longer feel absorbed in your emotions but rather looking as an observer. from this perspective you can think much more logically without fear controlling you.
2) Prepare in advance!
As I said above, when you feel fear you are IMAGINING something. You are playing out a sad, unfortunate series of events! We have wild imaginations don’t we? People looking at us, judging us, shunning and disowning us. Failing, looking stupid, being alone, being miserable etc etc… we have it all planned perfectly!
You see your mind works for you and it works perfectly! Whether you plan to feel bad or plan to feel good, it will do what it is told, so how about changing it? The amount of work is just the same! Imagine instead your succes, the victory, rwaching your achievement, goal or dream. How good would you feel? Now…you see…your starting to feel good!
Also, this will pre-program you. Once you have done it once its easier to do again, right? 🙂
Do it and your unconscious will thank you!
3) Build your confidence warrior muscle daily! muscle –
By daily and routinely stepping out of your comfort zone you are strengthening your courage muscle and telling your mind that you are not afraid of change or the unknown.
If you always do the same and live the same way this will be your comfort zone. Your habit. You need to shake it up! If you don’t practice in little ways when something challenging happens you will simply revert back to what you are used to, sheltering in the familiar.
So… Take little ‘risks’ daily. Pick something you have never had on the Menu. Say yes to an unusual event. Do something you have never done before. Basically stretch yourself daily and soon you will be saying to people that you are someone who always tries new things. Watch where it takes you 🙂
Most of all make a conscious decision and a promise to yourself that you want this more than being afraid!
Remember… if you listen to your fears you will die never knowing what you were capable of & what might have been.
If you do not go after what you want you will never have it.
If you do not ask the answer will always be no.
If you do not step forward you will always be in the same place.
Take action! This will defeat fear – inaction feeds it.
