Choosing the right path is not necessarily always easy. Sometimes we make bad decisions and that can tend to throw us off and to be tentative and indecisive in the future…
I started my own Radio Show about 3 months ago. I was actually nervous about doing it and ‘hemmed and hawed’ for ages before hand plucking up the courage. I was worried about messing up my words or something of the sort and looking foolish….
Mmmm great plan that…ay? I realized that with that ‘plan’, outcome in my mind I would never choose to do it! Richard Bandler says…‘Dissapointment takes adequate planning.’ 😉 So, I decided to look at the benefits of doing the show and also what would happen even if I did mess my words up. well, guess what? I have been doing my show Radio MasterMind for the past 3 months now and I mess up every time! On top of this I tell TERRIBLE jokes!
But guess what else… I love it and so do my listeners. I have great interaction on the station. Why do I think this is? Because, I am told I am REAL. You get what you see or hear in this case. I even mess up the punch lines and tell them first! Lol!
Here’s one specially for you now…
The department head is a wise, friendly old man, and one day, during an interview in his office he was asked, “Sir, What is the secret of your success?” He said, “Two words.” “And, Sir, what are they?” “Right decisions.” “But how do you make right decisions?” “One word.” He responded. “And, sir, What is that?” “Experience.” “And how do you get Experience?” “Two words.” “And, Sir, what are they?”…… ” Wrong decisions!”
You see, the quality in your life depends largely on the quality of your decisions. Everything we do is governed by the question we ask ourselves and good or bad decisions come from this.
What I believe is the fundamental key is this…
Good state = good thoughts = good questions = good decisions!
Of course there are useful practical strategies like to write out a list, prioritize and then consider the ramification of each with regard to logic, emotion and intuition.
But is there a ‘right’ decision and what does NLP, coaching, training and what I do bring to decision making? Well, I often talk about our mind being made up of our conscious and unconscious – the latter ruling 93% or so of your decisions and since your conscious mind can only think about a few variables simultaneously, while your unconscious mind can process many variables simultaneously, you are usually going to get better results from the unconscious, right?
This might be why one of the most common decision making strategies involves asking a question (auditory), looking over the options (visual) and then choosing the one that feels right (kinaesthetic). This is why your ‘gut feeling’ is widely considered so important.
I suggest you think of a time you made a good decision and notice how you felt then. Now think of another time. Probably it’s the same good feeling and physical sensations again. Now think of the decision you need to make, do you get the same feeling?? 🙂
Also, if you don’t want to do something, just acknowledge you don’t want to. That’s a decision in itself, right?! Often this leads to less stress and less of a hang up about the task itself and you sometimes find yourself doing it after all!
Unnecessary fear of a bad decision can be a major stumbling block to good decisions 😉
So make decisions often, train your ‘muscle’ every day and start listening to your gut.
Make the decision today to simply be you and be awesome!
To your journey!
